From the kitchen to the stamp

In its third edition of the "Swiss Inventions" stamp series, the Swiss Post is paying tribute to the iconic Susi 3 garlic press from Zyliss.

Insert, press, done. Since 1948, we have been crushing garlic quickly and without smelly fingers, thanks to an invention by Karl Zysset: the Susi 3 garlic press. The founder of Zyliss had the ingenious idea of applying the principle of the bicycle handbrake to the garlic press, thus invented a milestone in modern kitchen must-haves.

From Switzerland, more precisely from Lyss in the canton of Bern, Karl changed the world of cooking: in addition to the garlic press, he created many other clever kitchen gadgets, such as the salad spinner and the onion chopper, which are now indispensable in any kitchen. This inventive spirit has been part of our DNA from the very beginning and continues to this day in the form of sustainable product innovation.

  • The Susi 3 is honored as a symbol of Swiss innovation in the special stamp series designed by renowned Swiss graphic artist Jürg Glauser.
  • Limited Special Edition - to celebrate over 70 years of ingenuity, a limited edition of the Susi 3 garlic press will be released, each accompanied by a stamp.
  • A total of 4000 special editions will be available from 5 September 2024 on the Zyliss website, select department stores and retail partners, and the post office.
